Showmax unveils drama, Soft Life, ready to trigger

Showmax has just released an exciting first-look teaser for its latest Showmax Original, Soft Life, a gripping drama that premieres on 18 November 2024. Produced by Urban Brew Studios, Soft Life will air new episodes every Monday, featuring a stellar cast and a compelling storyline.

The show centers around Owami Gqoji, portrayed by Zizipho Buti (Nkululeko, Generations: The Legacy), a young woman thrust into the secretive world of high-society companionship in a desperate bid to pay off her mother’s mounting medical bills. With her life now hanging in the balance, Owami must carefully navigate the dual worlds she inhabits to protect all she holds dear.

“Owami has made me realise that there are so many young people who have found themselves in such compromising situations,” Zizipho shares. “I hope that the story will encourage people to have honest conversations about this.”

Zizipho is joined by an ensemble cast including Mampho Brescia (Isibaya) as Zam, the sophisticated yet strict owner of NubiaBlaq—a business that fronts for her escort agency, The Girlfriend Experience (GFE). Katlego Lebogang (Spinners) plays Zinhle, the Queen Bee at GFE, who mentors Owami. In addition, the legendary Nambitha Mpumlwana (Yizo Yizo, Tsotsi) takes on the role of Judge Iris Makhaza, the overprotective mother of Owami’s boyfriend.

The series is created by Vusi Zion for Afriprime and helmed by SAFTA-winning directors Nozipho Nkelemba (Gomora, Umakoti Wethu) and Nthabiseng Mokoena (Law, Love and Betrayal, The Wife).

Nozipho Nkelemba reflects on the show’s relevance: “Soft Life is a forward-thinking show where we are dealing with everyday issues happening in society, holding up a mirror to the public. It was interesting for me to see how far this subculture has grown since my younger days.”

“I am excited about the great entertainment that the talent brings to the storyline,” adds co-director Nthabiseng Mokoena. “More than anything, viewers should look forward to the new faces who will bring much joy, laughter, and sometimes heartache to our screens.”

Get ready for this 13-episode drama that’s bound to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Catch the premiere on Showmax on 18 November.
