inDrive, a global leader in urban mobility and services, strengthened its position as a key player in transforming African transport systems at the Smarter Mobility Africa Summit 2024.
Held from October 2nd to 4th, the summit, themed “Embracing the New Urban Era,” brought together industry leaders to discuss the future of mobility in Africa.
Mary-Anne Momoh-Ige, Government Relations Specialist for inDrive Africa, represented the company at the summit. She highlighted the importance of integrating ride-hailing services with traditional public transport to create more efficient, accessible, and sustainable mobility solutions. inDrive believes that collaboration is key to achieving this goal, and is actively working with public transport operators and local authorities to develop innovative solutions.
Addressing urban mobility challenges:
South Africa faces significant urban mobility challenges, with inefficiencies in transport infrastructure contributing to increased carbon emissions. The country’s transport sector accounts for a substantial portion of its overall emissions, and road transport is responsible for the majority of this figure.
inDrive is committed to addressing these challenges by merging ride-hailing platforms with traditional public transport networks. This approach creates seamless, eco-friendly solutions that are both affordable and sustainable.
Promoting gender inclusivity and technological innovation:
inDrive’s participation at the summit also showcased its dedication to fostering gender inclusivity and technological innovation. The company sponsored the Women in Mobility Seminar, highlighting its support for women in tech and mobility. Through its Aurora Tech Award, inDrive celebrates female founders of tech startups, and applications for the 2025 cohort are now open.
Driving urban transport innovation:
Vincent Linalane, Business Development Representative for inDrive’s Southern Africa team, emphasized the company’s ongoing mission to innovate urban transport. He stressed the importance of collaboration with local operators, public transport authorities, and other stakeholders to create solutions that address both current challenges and future needs.
inDrive’s active involvement in high-level industry events like the Smarter Mobility Africa Summit demonstrates its commitment to shaping the future of transport in Africa. By driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and championing inclusivity, inDrive is playing a vital role in transforming urban mobility across the continent.
